Fascinating how the new ferris wheel in Tagaytay, the Philippines’ tallest, has landed ‘the most googled destination’ in 2013.
It even bested Tubbataha Reef in Palawan (2nd in the Google’s year-in-review), which is a dream destination for many even if the reef is almost impossible to reach. But looking at the Top 10, the list also includes Nuvali (a leisure park with man-made lake in Sta Rosa, Laguna), resorts in Laiya, Batangas, and a waterpark in Bulacan. Clearly, most leisure-loving Filipinos are in search of affordable getaways that are not only perfect for couples and solo travelers, but also families.
Tagaytay is just a 20-minute drive from Sta Rosa, so if your family is hanging out at Nuvali, you might as well head to the cool city to see Sky Eye (63 meters). It’s not so different from the MOA Eye (55 meters), and if you’ve seen the Singapore Flyer (165 feet) chances are, you will be difficult to please, unless you have a kid-like sense of wonder, typical of carefree travelers and backpackers.

The ride is inside a small amusement park called Sky Ranch (there’s a horse ride), and admission fee is P50 (separate fees apply to each ride, say 150 pesos for the ferris wheel). Pricey, if you ride them all, so better drive along the highway, park for a while and look around, take photos of the country’s biggest wheel, take more photos outside, have some taho, and before heading home, buy a bag of corn or pineapples from the many stores that line the highway.
